Absence of menstruation doe not really means that a woman is menopausal. The situation or the condition is a bit confusing with women having menopausal symptoms like irregular menstrual cycle, night sweats, insomnia, vaginal dryness, and hot flashes.

Therefore, in order to be more precise menopause is the time that starts when a woman endures almost twelve months without having her periods.

This is a continuous and a common procedure in women ageing between 45 and 55 years of age but there are women who experience late menopause as well. So, let us know what is late menopause?

Menopause can occur at almost any time. But, in general the onset of menopause is experienced between 45 and 55 years of age. Nevertheless, woman who do not experience menopause even after 60, it means that she is going to have late menopause. Late menopause is not bad as it gives a woman a few more years to bear a child. But, these chances are very less.

Causes of Late Menopause

Hormones are important for the body. This is because they help the body in running correctly by regulating certain functions like sodium and fluid intake and menstrual cycle. The hormonal imbalances in the body cause menopause.


The same hormonal imbalances are also the cause of late menopause. However, a woman might experience the changes very late due to environmental factors such as excessive weight or due to genetic predisposition.

Experiencing late menopause should not be considered a problem by women because it gives them the ability of having children for an extended period of time. In addition to this, women experiencing late menopause are less likely to suffer from heart disease and osteoporosis.
