So being healthy during your pregnancy is very important because staying healthy not only improves your quality of life but also your baby’s health.

You can take care of your health in pregnancy by taking well-balanced diet, doing exercises, getting enough rest and proper nutritional intake will help you to reduce the pregnancy complications.

Here are some tips for you to maintain good health in pregnancy:

See your gynecologists: Once you start noticing the symptoms of pregnancy, you should consult the gynecologist for medications and diet tips for maintaining good health in pregnancy.

Keep regular appointments for prenatal check-ups and care such as blood, urine, cervical tests, blood sugar problems, high blood protein levels, iron levels and one ultrasound scanning. If you have any infections, get proper treatment to reduce the infection.

Eat a balanced diet: To take care of you and your baby, you need to maintain a proper nutritious diet.

  • Eat daily five portions of fruits and vegetables.
  • Eat from each food group like grains, vegetables, fruits, milk, fish, meat and other protein foods.
  • Drinking and eating at least four or five portions of dairy products and calcium-rich food a day will help to build strong teeth, bones and decrease the risk of osteoporosis.
  • Two servings of fish per week as it contain protein, vitamin D, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for the development of your baby’s nervous system.
  • Every pregnant woman needs 70 mg of vitamin C a day. So, it is better to have at least one good source of vitamin C every day such as grapefruits, orange, strawberries, honeydew, broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts, tomatoes and mustard greens.
  • Women who want to become pregnant and who are already pregnant must take enough folic acid every day as it helps to prevent neural tube defects and helps to develop the baby’s spine. It is found in dark-green leafy vegetables, fortified cereals, eggs, liver and dried beans.
  • Avoid junk food as it will help you not to gain excess pregnancy weight and keep your baby healthy.

Water: During pregnancy drinking plenty of water is very important. Drinking enough water every day will help to prevent common problems like dehydration and constipation.

Exercises: Regular exercise has many benefits for pregnant women. It is advisable to consult a doctor before starting any exercise.

Exercising while you are pregnant is extremely beneficial to maintain good health in pregnancy and also it will increase your blood flow and helps to normalize your metabolism.

  • Some simple exercises are advised to all pregnant women such as brisk walking, swimming, yoga, Pilates and prenatal exercise classes, which help to reduce the risk of having gestational diabetes and for lowering the physical discomfort that occurs with pregnancy.
  • Practicing deep breathing exercises will reduce your labor pains and also improve oxygen supply to your baby.
  • Try to avoid lifting heavy objects, standing for a long time and lying on your back.

Stay away from harmful substances: For maintaining good health in pregnancy you should avoid smoking and drinking alcohol because any alcohol you drink rapidly reaches your baby through your blood stream and placenta.

It will increase the risk of low birth weight, fetal death and preterm birth. And also avoid certain chemicals like varnishes, hair dyes, paint and glue because these chemicals will increase your chances of having a baby with birth defects.

This also is very critical in the tissue repair and the cell renewal. But, you should not need to consume this vitamin in big portion. It is enough for you to consume 85 mg each day is enough
