BPH or Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia is a condition where the prostate gland gets enlarged. The urethra and the tube that transmits urine from urinary bladder out of the body are surrounded by this prostate gland.

In Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, the Prostate gland gets enlarged, which might result in partly blocking or squeezing the urethra. The entire procedure might cause an individual to have problems in urinating.

BPH is also called benign prostatic hypertrophy and it is considered a normal procedure of aging in men. It is generally caused due to the changes in growth of cell and hormone imbalance. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Causes are still not well-understood by researchers.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Causes

Here are some of the common Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia causes, which you need to be aware of:

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Causes

Ageing Factor

BPH is considered as a common condition among ageing men. This is mainly due to hormonal changes causes due to ageing. 60% of men above 60 years of age, and above 80% of men over 80 years of age are affected with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.

High Quantity of Estrogen

Men commonly produce testosterone along with estrogen in small quantities throughout their lives. The quantity of active testosterone in the blood of ageing men decreases leaving them with high quantity of estrogen.

It has been suggested through studies that BPH might be the cause of high quantity of estrogen in the prostate. Estrogen in high proportion increases the activity of the substances which help in promoting the growth of prostate cell.

DHT Accumulation

It has been indicated through research that older men continue producing and accumulating DHT, a male hormone in their prostate even with a drop in the levels of blood testosterone. The DHT accumulation might encourage the growth of prostate cells resulting in benign prostate hyperplasia.

Family History

Family history of issues related to prostate might also serve as the cause of BPH. Testicle abnormalities are another cause but they are not very common. Ageing men should remain aware of these causes of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.
