Know the Different Types of Skin Rashes

Skin RashesSkin rashes are usually an inflammation on the skin. Skin rashes can be caused by a number of factors such as dry skin, hereditary, food, plants, drugs, fungus and various other reasons.

Rashes are very common to all ages from infants to seniors. These rashes can change the appearance of the skin, its color and texture, which can be cause by redness, bumps, dryness, itchiness and cracking.

There are many different types of skin rashes. Based on the type of rashes, they are divided into two types such as infectious and non-infectious, infectious rashes like ring worm, scabies, herpes, chickenpox and shingles and the non-infectious rashes like eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, drug eruption, hives, dry skin and allergic dermatitis.

Here are the most common skin rashes:

Eczema: This is due to a reaction on the skin. The reaction usually leads to swelling and redness. Eczema appears on the face, knees, hands and feet. Most of the times, it is found in families those who have a history of asthma and hay fever

It will be aggravated by the clothing, stress, strong soaps and detergents. If you have eczema, your skin will be itchy and inflamed particularly in folds of the skin like knees, elbows and neck. Use cold water rather than hot water for bathing and apply lubricating creams and lotions on the affected skin after bath, which makes the skin smooth and soft.

Dermatitis: A simple skin rash is called dermatitis. There are different types of dermatitis such as atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis.

  • Atopic dermatitis: It is also known as eczema.
  • Contact dermatitis: This skin rash is caused by the things that your skin touches like rubber products, fake jewellery, dyes, poison ivy, poison oak and other chemicals in clothing. Contact dermatitis only affects the parts of the skin that can directly contact with a substance. Topical creams and lotions are used to treat this type of skin rash.
  • Seborrheic dermatitis: It is a common inflammatory skin condition. Seborrheic dermatitis appears because of stress, fatigue, oily skin, infrequent shampoo and weather conditions. It is usually appears in the form of red patches and scaling around eyebrows, eyelids, nose, lips, scalp, the outer ear, behind the ears and upper chest, back and other areas of your body, which have many oil glands. If it appears on your scalp, it is called dandruff in adults and cradle cap in infants.

Psoriasis: Psoriasis is a common skin condition. Most of the people with psoriasis have thick, white or silver patches and red skin with flaky that can be itchy and painful. These patches can be seen on the knees, elbow and middle of the body. It can occur at any age.

Most of the time psoriasis is treated with medications such as creams, ointment and dandruff shampoos that are placed directly on the skin and scalp.
