9 Most Irritated Tonsils Symptoms

Tonsils are fleshy pieces of lymphatic tissue remains in the back of throat above and below the tongue. Considering body’s immune system, tonsils can help in defeating infections.

Tonsillitis is caused due to allergies, bacteria and respiratory problems results in inflammatory condition of tonsils. In this condition tonsils appear as red and swollen with yellowish or grayish coating on the surface.

1. Tonsillitis starts suddenly with sore throat and pain when you swallow anything. It also causes throat and tonsils tissues to swell and blocks the air passage in and out of the respiratory system.

Generally physicians try to treat infected tonsils with strong antibiotics, but if it occurs repeatedly twice in a year, surgery called tonsillectomy is advised that means removal of adenoids.


7. Throat irritation occurs not only from tonsils being inflamed but also rubbing against food that is eaten. Symptoms like throat irritation and sore throat could indicate the presence of sinus infection especially in the patients suffering with cough, sneezing, nasal congestion and runny nose

8. Some more symptoms of tonsillitis are severe headache, abdominal pain, swollen lymph nodes, bad breath, and difficulty swallowing, raw or bleeding patches on the tonsils.

9. Untreated infected tonsils can lead to complications like rheumatic fever which could damage the heart permanently. The common cause of tonsillitis is viral infection or bacterial infection. Viral tonsillitis shows the cold-like symptoms whereas bacterial tonsillitis results in severe and sudden fever with swollen lymph nodes.

Avoiding contact with bacteria, germs and viruses which cause tonsillitis is the best way to prevent the condition. Experts suggest that frequent hand wash and avoiding sharing of utensils or glasses with sick individuals would keep you away from infected tonsillitis.
