It is the time to get flu shot!!!Getting the annual flu shot much before the flu season is in full force to help you reduce the chance of catching the flu and even lowers the severity of the flu if you do catch it.

Even though, there are still some more months left for the flu season, still it is a good idea to get protected. Influenza is a serious illness that could lead to hospitalization and in sometimes even death.

When To Get The Flu Vaccine?However, seasonal flu outbreaks could occur as early as October, most of the time flu activity peaks in the month of January or later.

As it takes about two weeks after getting vaccination against antibodies to develop in the body which protects from flu virus infection, it is better that people got shot so that they are protected before flu starts spreading in their community.

National Health and Medical Research Council Recommendations

The National Health and Medical Research Council recommends annual flu shot for everyone aged six months or older who want to reduce the likelihood of becoming diseased with flu. Flu vaccination is strongly recommended for certain groups including:

  • People aged 65 years or over
  • Pregnant women
  • All kids six months through 4 years old
  • Anyone who has weakened immune system from illness
  • All health care professionals
  • Native Americans and Alaskan natives

Since the infected virus circulates the globe constantly, it is must to get a shot every year. Get the flu shot as soon as it is available in your surrounding areas. Early immunization is very effective, but it is not too late to get a shot in December, January or even beyond.
