1. Cataracts

A cataract is the main leading cause of irreversible blindness if not detected in early stages. Individuals with cataracts will experience cloudy vision just like viewing through a fogged weather.

2. Glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye disease that affects optic nerve and is the second leading cause of blindness.

Glaucoma happens when there is restricted flow of fluid out of the eye resulting in increased pressure.

3. Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration also called age-related macular degeneration (AMD) can be the main culprit of vision loss in older people especially those who are 60 and above.

4. Stargardt’s Disease

It is an inherited form of eye disease that affects commonly children and young adults. It is also called as Stargardt’s macular dystrophy (SMD) or fundus flavimaculatus.

Symptoms include early loss of central vision along with loss of color vision and ultimately leading to complete loss of vision.

5. Optic Neuritis

Optic neuritis is a condition related to optic nerve causing temporary or permanent loss of vision. It is characterized by inflammation of optic nerve, which is the main nerve that carries visual information from eyes to brain.
