When you are in 4th stage of lung cancer, then it has already metastasized to the other organs. For this particular stage of the cancer, surgery may still be performed, bit only to relive the cancer symptoms, but not to cure the cancer.

For most patients with stage 4 lung cancer, chemotherapy and radiation therapy is recommended to prevent the cancer cells from spreading.

Treatment to control stage 4 lung cancer aims to control the cancer for as long as possible and to shrink the tumor down to reduce the symptoms.

Stage 4 Lung Cancer Treatment

  • People whose cancer cells have particular protein may receive treatment with biological therapy drugs like gefitinib, crizotinib or erlotinib.
  • People who have received chemotherapy for lung cancer treatment, but unable to control the cancer, then the doctor suggests for further chemotherapy if your body supports.
  • Another treatment option for stage 4 lung cancer treatment is radiation therapy. This treatment can help people to relieve symptoms like pain or cough. Along with radiotherapy, there are some other treatments that can help to relive the blockages and reduce symptoms in case you tumor in one of the main airways. Treatments used in such cases include laser treatment, internal radiotherapy, cryotherapy, stent to keep the airways open, and also some light therapies.
  • Photodynamic therapy (PDT) works effective in treating lung cancer related to bronchial tubes. During stage 4 lung cancer, PDT is used to reduce the symptoms from blockages in the bronchial tubes.
  • Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is a technique in which several radiation beams are focused on a tumor. This therapy is mainly suggested for people with small tumors and who are not good candidates for surgery.

    Very informative post you are shared with us and you are right under 4th stage patient have only Radiation and Chemotherapy option and targeted therapy is also an important treatment for lung cancer.
    And the basic symptoms of the Lung cancer can be
    Constant or severe coughing
    Pain in the chest or back from coughing
    Different coloured sputum/ mucus
    Difficulty in swallowing and breathing
    Huskiness of the voice
    Chronic bronchitis or pneumonia
    Coughing up of blood in the sputum

    And we can prevent lung cancer to stop smoking, Avoid secondhand smoke, Eat a diet full of fruits and vegetables, Drink alcohol in moderation, if at all and make sure we do everyday exercise.

    treatment for “PNET Glioma”? the victim is a 10-year-old girl child.
