Brain tumor removal may depend on several factors such as location, size and type of the tumor and also patient’s general health and age.

Treatment methods for brain tumor removal differ for adults and children.

Here are the most common methods for treating brain tumor:

1. Surgery
For most of the primary brain tumors, surgery is the first treatment method if the tumor can be removed without causing any side effects or harm to the brain tissue.

Brain Tumor RemovalIf the brain tumor is located, where it can be accessible for surgery, then the surgeon will work for brain tumor removal as much as possible.

Some brain tumors are small and are very easy to separate from the surrounding tissues of brain. This type of condition can ease removal process with surgery.

Surgical treatment to remove tumors may carry some risks, like bleeding and infections. Other risks may associate with the location of the tumor.

For example surgical removal of tumor, which is located near nerves that connect to eyes, may carry the risk of vision loss.

2. Chemotherapy

This method uses drugs in order to kill the brain tumor cells. These drugs can be taken orally in the form of pills or can be injected into veins. Another type of chemotherapy drug can be used during the surgery.

After removing all tissues of brain tumor, surgeon will place disk-shaped wafer in spaces left by the brain tumors. Slowly these wafers release the drug for next few days. Depending on the type of drug and dosage, side effects may trigger. This can usually cause vomiting, hair loss, and nausea.

3. Radiosurgery

This treatment uses multiple radiation beams to provide highly focused radiation treatment for brain tumor removal. These beams kill the brain tumor cells even in very small areas. This treatment takes very less time; you can even go home on same day. Side effects may include headache, nausea and fatigue.

4. Targeted drug therapy

This method focuses on the specific abnormalities that present within the cancer cells. Targeted cancer cell blocks these abnormalities and causes those cells to die. One type of targeted drug therapy used for brain tumor removal is bevacizumab, which is used to remove glioblastoma cancer.

Another type of drug called everolimus can be used to treat the brain tumors, which occur in people with genetic disorders known as tuberous sclerosis. This drug blocks an enzyme in the body, which plays a major role in the growth of brain cancer cells.
